Our Company
Assai’s mission is to help engineers, planners, and managers, proactively manage and deliver projects and operations on time and on budget.
How did it all start?
Our founders Willem van der Jagt and Gerrit Breebaart met whilst working as IT consultants at the same software company in the Netherlands. At that time, the Dutch software industry was dominated by big consultancy companies selling services to end-user organisations. Willem and Gerrit wanted to focus on building beautiful software, using the latest technology. Driven by this ambition, they decided to go it alone and set up Assai in 1990. In the early years, Assai developed several standard software products and the company grew steadily. In 1996, Assai started to develop a standard software system for document control.


To the Next Level
Assai’s first client was Rail Link Engineering in London. New clients came in and the system quickly began to gain ground. Today, we have over 60 customers and support thousands of projects worldwide. Over the years the system has been modernised and adapted to new technologies, with new modules and functionality added.
Over our 30-year history, Assai has grown from a local IT company to a worldwide vendor of our document control and management solution, with a global network of offices, distributors, and agents.
