We are currently looking for a System Engineer (40 hours per week) to join our team in Culembog, the Netherlands.

Job Description

As a System engineer you will work on the infrastructure support, deploy, upgrade, and maintain Assai Document Control and Management System in client environments (cloud & on-premises). You also need to have experience with “3-tier application architecture” (web, application, and database servers), Azure Kubernetes Services (AKS) and multicloud. To strengthen our current OPS-team and to support the expanding organization, we have created this position in our team in The Netherlands. The ideal candidate will have proven experience of 5-10 years as System Engineer and/or similar role. We are looking for a System Engineer with a hands-on mentality who can work closely with other colleagues and is also capable of working independently.

Responsibilities

The main responsibility of the System Engineer is to manage the delivery of ongoing services to clients, such as IT Support or managed services. These include:

  • Design, implement, and manage the cloud infrastructure, predominantly on Azure, while also working with other cloud providers (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to architect and design solutions that meet business and technical requirements.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automating deployment, and ensuring a smooth and efficient release process.
  • Participating in projects.
  • Active role in knowledge management, such as documenting and updating work instructions, process agreements, procedures, and workarounds.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies, recommending innovative solutions to enhance our cloud infrastructure.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for critical system support.
  • Working close with other members within the various Assai departments.
  • Ability to learn and willingness to take on more complex tasks.
  • Ensuring that systems, procedures, and methodologies are in place to support service delivery.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scripts and templates for provisioning and managing cloud resources.
  • Participate in cloud architecture discussions and provide input to optimize system performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Work on the deployment and configuration of virtual machines, containers, and related services in Azure and other cloud platforms.
  • Assist in setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system-related issues, working closely with the support and operations teams.
  • Monitor system performance, resource utilization, and security, making recommendations for improvements.
  • Keep up to date with cloud technologies and best practices to contribute to the continuous improvement of our cloud infrastructure.

Your competencies

  • Knowledge in ITIL Disciplines
  • Operational ability in a diverse, large-scale (global) environment
  • Proven experience as a System Engineer or a similar role, with a strong focus on Azure.
  • In-depth knowledge of Azure services, multi-cloud environments, and cloud- native technologies.
  • Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, ARM templates, or CloudFormation.
  • Strong programming/scripting skills (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash).
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Proficiency in CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, Azure System, GitLab CI/CD).
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-400, AZ-900) and certifications from other cloud providers are a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
